For English learners, the joy and rewards that reading can bring are unmatched by other learning styles. Research shows that reading improves student’s English proficiency even without the help from teachers.
Some researchers point out that the only way to acquire a second language is through reading. The cognitive process of reading texts activates the brain and develops thinking. During the reading process, learners are developing critical and logical thinking by analyzing and comparing ideas from multiple logical structures of chapters.
In addition, reading in English also is a process collecting information about the cultures of different countries, which can broaden children’s horizons and help them build a strong and rich spiritual world. Through reading, children get to learn about themselves, others and the world in a pluralistic perspective.
